Feeling Grateful About Your Postpartum Body

I wanted to post this photo to hopefully encourage someone (a mom in particular) who maybe is a little too hard on herself about how she looks postpartum.

On the left is a current photo of how my belly looks when standing, and the right is a current photo of how my belly looks when I bend over.

Even though I've worked hard to get to where I am today, there still are things I will look in the mirror and cringe at lol. Babies do a number on your body, and I have the stretch marks and loose skin to prove it lol (I also had umbilical hernia repair).
I've been told nothing will fix the separated skin and abdominal wall except surgery and I'm just not ready for that yet.

But, my point in showing this, is that even though you might have stretch marks, or wider hips, or loose skin or deflated boobs lol, you carried nothing less than a miracle inside of you. So when I look down at my saggy belly skin and start to get discouraged, I think of the fact that I housed 3 babies in there; 2 at the same time! And that makes me grateful. Not every woman gets that chance.

So keep working hard to better yourself, but cut yourself some slack from time to time. We never will look like Photoshopped cover models, but we can be stronger and healthier than we were yesterday!

  1. Amen! I was so hard on myself after my first child. Then when he was 6 months old I got pregnant again and was terrified of what my body would look like. Funny thing is now I see my precious boys and realize that it's ok if my body doesn't ever look the same as it did before them. My life certainly isn't the same…and that's a good thing! Thanks for putting yourself out there and sharing this!
